Warwick Seeks Four Young Ambassadors as Town Prepares To Host Eurocamp 2020
Warwick has been named as this year’s international destination for Eurocamp 2020, an annual initiative that brings together 20 young people from Warwick and its European twin and friendship towns for two weeks of adventure and a creative project. Eurocamp 2020 will run from Sunday 19th July for two weeks, through to Sunday 2nd August.
Organised and funded by Warwick Town Council and its twin towns, the council has now opened applications to find four young people, aged between 16 and 21, to represent Warwick. The four will become ambassadors for the town and host its visitors, of the same age group, from Warwick’s twin and friendship towns of Saumur (France), Verden & Havelberg (Germany), and Formigine (Italy).
Eurocamp 2020 will be headquarted at Warwick Racecourse, with accommodation and catering included for each participant during the event. In addition to having use of the facilities at HQ, Eurocamp will deliver creative and adventure across the town with privileged access and unique experiences across the town and its iconic landmarks.
At the heart of Eurocamp 2020, is a collaborative and creative project that will see the Eurocamp 2020 team create a unique artwork installation that depicts and celebrates Guy of Warwick, the town’s very own Robin Hood figure from the early Middle Ages. Alongside other organisations in Warwick, Eurocamp 2020 will play a key part in weaving Guy of Warwick into our town’s historic fabric.
The creative project will see participants exploring their creative side to build an artistic installation representing Guy of Warwick. The Project will have a keen focus on making use of recycled materials to provide an opportunity to deliver a positive environmental message.
For the two weeks, EuroCamp will be managed by a professional youth worker, supported by a project and experience team.
Councillor Richard Eddy, chair of the Community & Culture, Warwick Town Council, said:
“It is part of the council’s mission to connect and inspire young people in the CV34 area and EuroCamp 2020 is a cornerstone of our initiatives. For the past six years, EuroCamp has successfully hosted pupils from local schools and given them experience in working together with others from our twin towns on community projects, learning key skills, and aiding personal development.
From previous years, it’s evident that EuroCamp has both empowered many of our young people and provided a thoroughly entertaining summer for participants as they spend two weeks with other young people from France, Germany and Italy.
Participants get to level up their experience, whether they want to build confidence or learn leadership skills, and, through building international friendships, there’s also the opportunity to develop language skills. Plus, they’ll be representing Warwick as an official host of EuroCamp 2020, which is going to look pretty good on anyone’s CV or UCAS application.”
To take part in EuroCamp 2020, applicants must live within a CV34 postcode (Warwick).
Application forms to participate in Eurocamp 2020 are now available from George Palmer at Warwick Town Council. The closing date for applications is Tuesday 10th March 2020.
