The iconic tower of the Collegiate Church of St Mary requires major restoration work. The 300 year old core tower structure is safe, but there is a real risk of falling masonry, as indicated by warning signs and barriers at the foot of the tower.
The funds are in place to enable the first phase of restoration work to go ahead. This will commence on Monday 16th August 2021.
The three roads that approach St Mary’s Church will be closed to all vehicles. Accessible pedestrian movements will be maintained by means of covered walkways and dropped kerbs.
Warwickshire County Council have made a Temporary Traffic Order as detailed in the schedule below. The Order will begin on Monday 16th August 2021 and will last for up to 18 months or until the works are completed, whichever is the earlier. It is anticipated that this work will be completed by 15th October 2021.

Parking will be available in all town centre off-street car parks, with the addition of the bottom two decks of Barrack Street car park. Signage to direct motorists to the car parks will be in place, ensuring that diverted traffic can easily access the town centre. Maximum wait times will still apply and only the bottom two decks of Barrack Street car park will be free.
The free allocation of parking in Barrack Street car park will be accessible from the lower decks from Theatre Street only. New Street car park will be accessible by entering the Market Square from Barrack Street (by the Globe Hotel) driving straight towards St Mary’s Tower and then turning rich onto New Street.
