Deputy Mayor: Councillor Jackie D’Arcy

The Mayor of Warwick is a role steeped in tradition and ceremony. Since 1664, the Mayor of Warwick has been the First Citizen of Warwick and represents the town, with the insignia of the mace, robes, and chains of office, and connects the present day with history, acting as a symbol of continuity.

The current Mayor who came into office on 23rd May 2024 is Councillor Dave Skinner.

Born in Warneford hospital and raised in a small village called Beausale just outside Warwick, I came from a countryside background. But from an early age, I fell in love with what Warwick had to offer as the nearest town. Having moved in to the town in the early 80s, I am in the same house now that I moved to in 1990 where I was married and my two wonderful daughters were born, and where I now still live with my lovely dog Cassie.

I was the last intake in the very small village school before it closed, then moved on to Hatton school (now Ferncumbe) and then onto Heart of England high school in Balsall Common. Preferring to start work straight after leaving school though having good results, I first worked at the International Stores in Smith Street in the late 70s, then moved into computing, working at the County Council as a mainframe operator, going on to being a Systems Programmer. After a few years there and a spell working in computer consultancy in Birmingham, I joined IBM based in Warwick where I stayed for 20 years in Service Management. I left IBM in 2017 and worked for a while at a friend’s charity based in Warwick – GFCT which provided awareness and support in early diagnosis of Prostate Cancer. I’m currently now working at the hospital in an administrative role.

Before I left school, I was an Air Training Cadet at 1368 Warwick Squadron, then before I was 18 was running the local village youth club. After training as a qualified Youth and Community part time worker I started working as one of the leaders at the PHAB (PHysically Disabled and Able Bodied) group at Warwick Youth Centre in 1981 and have been at the centre ever since, working in community groups such as Mencap’s Gateway club and being the Chair of the centre’s management committee. Following a successful bid we submitted to keep the centre from closure, am now on the Board of Warwickspace that the centre is now. Amongst other things, I was a parent governor for 10 years at Coten End school, have been involved in Friends of Priory Park since it began and now Chair, a Racing Club Warwick FC supporter for over 30 years, and have many years’ experience of enjoying a conversational beer in the many fabulous pubs in the town!

I was elected a District and Town Councillor in 2019, and also stood and got elected for the Town Council in 2023.

I am very passionate about our town and will continue to do my upmost to help all residents be safe and happy, together with encouraging and supporting everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy what the town offers. I am also working towards a better future and vision for Warwick supporting businesses and our attractions, to enhance what the town offers and protecting our wonderful heritage.

As Mayor of Warwick Dave will attend both historic and contemporary events, meet individuals, organisations and communities, to recognise their contributions to the town and uphold the civic pride in Warwick. The Mayor can be invited to attend events which have a community – inclusive or town wide significance.

The Mayor’s diary is co-ordinated by Angela Clarke at the Town Council. Please see the Contact The Mayor page for details of how to get in touch with the Mayor.
